Ian Smith, former vocalist/organist of the disbanded INNER MIND, got ex-members Dave Tattersall (Bass) and Jimmy Walsh (Drums) and several other musicians together to record two very different styles of music. The Spinstars` (group) tracks were 90m.p.h. Punky Reggae or Soul, whilst The Spinstar (solo) songs were Commercial Soul/Reggae.

The Spinstars were the result of sessions done between Jan - March 1980 at September Sound Studio in Golcar, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, with Bob Whiteley as recording engineer.  The musicians on these tracks were Inner Mind members Dave Tattersall, Jimmy Walsh & Ian; also on the sessions were Alan Wormald on guitar and Rick Longden on sax.

Ian selected several old Soul and Reggae/RockSteady titles & some original songs then bounced them up to the then-trendy 90m.p.h. Punky/Ska style. In fact, one original track "Sufferin` Still" ended up as `B`-side to Ian`s solo single as The Spinstar called "(No) I Can`t Stand It" on Hot Lead Records.

The other tracks never saw the light of day on record, but remain great tracks in the Punk/Ska style.
