Hot Lead Records was set launched in 1970 by Ian Smith as a purely Reggae label & operated as such for four memorable years, with occasional releases after that. The label`s roster included The Inner Mind (of course!), Mr.T. Bones & The Maze, The Groovers,
The Dalton Bros, Owen Gray, Flame, Superbad & Laurel Aitken. After that time, the set-up did independent productions & widened the musical styles. Now the label handles an astounding array of different musical talents.

Castle Hill Music was set up at exactly the same time, initially to cover the original songs of Ian R Smith & then for other artistes on the Hot Lead label. As time went by, the Music Publishing side mushroomed and now Castle Hill covers almost all types of music,
by a wide range of songwriters. In conjunction with F.I. Music, the two companies have a vast catalogue of material from Adult Contemporary to Theme/Soundtrack and all areas in between.

Ian R Smith, backed by THE INNER MIND and some additional musicians, had a Reggae single out in the early 80's as THE SPINSTAR which nearly made the National Chart; they also made some recordings in a more "PUNK" Reggae style as the SPINSTARS which were never released, but are now available from this website.

He then worked for many years in a male/female duo, GOLDSMITH, & eventually went solo in the 90's.

Ian still continues recording in several different musical areas.

He had an album “EBONY NIGHTS, IVORY TOWERS” and several singles out in the U.S.A. on the Country/Country Rock scene as IAN COLTAIRE (labels C-Breeze, Dineyo, Bobbysox, Caprice Int`l
and Door Knob) and a belated follow-up album
“ANOTHER SAT`DAY NIGHT (And it`s Still only Tuesday)” on Hot Lead Records released in 2007, under the same name.
